Company History

Celluphone was founded in 1983 when it became the first cellular agent in the western United States. Throughout our 23-year history, we have been a pioneer in the wireless industry. Here are a few of our milestones:

1983 Celluphone is appointed the first Authorized Agent for Verizon Wireless (then AT&T AMPS) 13 months before cellular service launched in the Los Angeles area. Doors first open as “Radiophone,” later to be renamed Celluphone. 1984 Celluphone installs 750 car phones at more than $3,000 each, before launch of cellular service. Nancy Mohr signs Celluphone’s first sub-Dealer in Los Angeles, California. Thereafter she starts signing hundreds of small retail sub-dealers, pioneering a role that later would be called a “Master Agent.” 1985 In just 2 short years in wireless, Celluphone activates its 10,000th subscriber. 1987 Bringing together wireless carriers and dealers, Celluphone produces its first Trade Show. 1995 After 4 years of working hard to build Celluphone’s core business and culture, Mike Mohr, Mitch Mohr’s son becomes Celluphone’s President. 1996 Celluphone first offers Prepay Wireless, which quickly becomes a successful alternative to traditional contracts. 1997 Celluphone expansion begins when its San Diego office opens as Airtouch Cellular’s only “Authorized Master Agent.” 1999 Celluphone moves into a new corporate headquarters in Los Angeles, California. Bay Area office opens as CellularOne’s only “Authorized Master Agent.” Expansion continues in Sacramento. 2000 Celluphone unveils its new logo, to emphasize its focus on activating more numbers. 2001 First out-of-state expansion lands Celluphone in Houston. 2002 Celluphone launches two new proprietary systems: EPINs®, which allows dealers to buy & load airtime over the phone & online; and WebActs®, which allows dealers to activate postpay and prepay customers online, is launched. Celluphone expands to San Antonio, Dallas & Chicago. 2003 Celluphone celebrates 20 years of excellence. Celluphone expands to Wisconsin & St. Louis. 2004 Celluphone expands relationship with Verizon Wireless to the Bay Area. Celluphone begins selling Cingular Wireless in IL, WI and MO. 2005 Celluphone moves into a new corporate headquarters in Los Angeles, California. 2006 Celluphone expands relationship with Verizon Wireless to Illinois, Kansas, Missouri and Wisconsin. 2006 Celluphone begins national expansion with multiple Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNO's).
